Robert S. and Carolyn (Cossart)'s Story
Robert S. Martin, 70, and Carolyn (Cossart) Martin, 77, of Hixon Hill Road , Woolwich, died Saturday, January 21, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident.
Bob was born in Beverly, on December 15, 1946, a son of Robert and Dorothy Young Martin. He graduated in 1965 from Beverly Trade School and attended North Eastern University. Bob went on to become a Master Plumber in Massachusetts, owned his own business for many years and after retirement joined the Topsham Home Depot in a quest to help others by sharing his plumbing expertise. He was both a mason and a member of the Rotary Club of Ipswich. As an avid boater, Bob held a Captain’s license and was a beloved member of the Wiscasset Yacht Club.
Carolyn was born in Dorchester, on January 9, 1940, a daughter of Robert and Theresa (Cannon) Walsh. She attended Boston schools and received her Bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1962. A longtime resident of Sudbury, where she raised her family, Carol spent many years employed by Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury. She later moved to Naples, Fla., with Bob, where she worked at Saks 5th Avenue. Carol was an active member of the Garden Club of Wiscasset and was often seen leaving a Zumba class or hiking up Hixon Hill Road.
Bob and Carol married in Woolwich, Maine on June 27, 2009. Together, they enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, gardening and most recently beekeeping. Mostly they enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, with whom they shared a love for the New England Patriots. Good Luck at the Superbowl!
Robert is survived by daughters Colleen Martin and Erin Gansert (Partner, Karl Herrick) and granddaughter Emily Gansert, all of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He is also survived by brothers, Kevin (Sandra) Martin of Hampton Falls NH, David (Jane) Martin of Beverly, and Sister Patricia (Lawrence) Fabri of Beverly, along with many nieces and nephews. Carolyn is survived by three sons, William Cossart and his wife, Caryl of Wayland, Edward Cossart and James Cossart both of Savannah, Ga., as well as two grandsons, William Cossart IV and Matthew Whalen. Also surviving her are two sisters, Jean Pierce (Frank) of Wellfleet, Mass. and New York City, New York and Marilyn McCarty of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Robert Walsh (Joanne ) of Charleston, S.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Peter McCarty.
They also leave behind their beloved pets, Margaret, Agnes and Sylvester.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday February 4th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath.
A Celebration of Life will follow at Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington Street, Bath, Maine, 04530.
