Ralph L.'s Story
Ralph L. Church, 81, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2017. He was the husband of Christine (Sanborn) Church, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Lewis W. and Glenda (Crowley) Church.
Ralph was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1953 and Mass Maritime, Class of 1956. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1956 to 1958. Ralph was employed at General Electric in Lynn for over 40 years as an engineer in the Aircraft Engine Department. He continued his education earning his master's at Boston University. He was a 50 year member of the Philanthropic Masonic Lodge in Marblehead.
As a lifelong resident of Marblehead, Ralph had a passion for the ocean and Marblehead Harbor. He also enjoyed time spent at his camp on Tinkers Island with his family. After retiring he fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a lobster fisherman.
In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Woody and her daughters, Makenna and Addison Woody of Montana; his son, David Church and his wife, Hillary, their son, Dylan Church of Florida; his sister, Marilyn Lackey of Marblehead; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carlton and Lewis Church.
A memorial service will be held at the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel in Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Thursday, February 23, at 11 a.m. Burial with honors to follow the service. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
