Phyllis Elaine's Story
Phyllis Elaine Wychgram passed away peacefully in her San Diego residence with her loving family by her side on Thursday, April 6.
Phyllis was born in Winona, Minnesota on February 12, 1924, to Juliet Brady Strelow and Harold A. Strelow, the first of three children. Phyllis grew up in Winona on the Mississippi River and graduated from Winona High School. She met the love of her life, Clifford H. Wychgram, while in high school. They were married on February 23, 1946, after Clifford returned from serving in WWII.
Phyllis’s activities over the past 71 years were centered on three areas, raising a family of six children, presiding over several geographic moves from Minneapolis to New Jersey to San Diego, back to Minneapolis, to Boston, and finally, retirement to Phyllis’ dream home in San Diego, where she kept her artistic fires burning. She thoroughly enjoyed her four grandchildren, passing on her skills of the arts, cooking with them, and telling them vivid stories of her childhood.
Phyllis was predeceased by her beloved son, John Paul Wychgram; and her two brothers, Harold and Lavern Strelow. She is survived by her loving husband, Clifford; son, Daniel Wychgram and his wife, Jocelyn of Thermopolis, Wyo.; son, James Wychgram and his longtime companion, Mary Rice of Oceanside, Calif.; daughter, Mary Wychgram Dunsay and husband, George of The Villages, Fla.; son, Peter Wychgram and wife, Tuyet of Erie, Colo.; and daughter, Zoe Ann Patrikas and husband, Dana of Danvers, Mass. She also leaves her wonderful grandchildren, Sarah Conlon, Hans Wychgram and wife, Annette, Hunter Wychgram and wife, Cherrie, Maggie Patrikas and John Patrikas; and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Parker Wychgram and Amelia Wychgram.
