Peter A.'s Story
Peter A. Panagoplos, 77, beloved husband of the late Lynne (Skurzewski) Panagoplos, died Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Anthony and Helen (Mitatos) Panagoplos. He received his education in the Peabody School System, graduating from Peabody High School. He continued his education, earning a Bachelors Degree at Salem State College.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard in 1961.
Mr. Panagoplos was employed for 40 years at West Lynn Creamery, where he was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Richdale Convenience Stores division. Following his retirement, he purchased and operated several Richdale Stores in Essex and Gloucester. As a young man, he also worked as a geography teacher at Peabody High School.
A longtime resident of Wenham, he also was a member of the Board of Directors at the Community Credit Union in Lynn and one of the founding members of the New England Convenient Store Association (NECSA). He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, mentor and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are three sons, Ty Panagoplos of Toronto, Canada; Andrew Panagoplos and his wife, Elizabeth of Chicago, Ill.; and Christopher Panagoplos and his wife, Jamie of Essex; three grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan and Leah; two sisters, Effie Casteris of Danvers and Viola Duros of Winchester; a brother, Nicholas Panagoplos of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by closing prayers at 4:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
