Paul G.'s Story
Paul George Fournier, age 83, passed away on January 10, 2017, at Salem Hospital. Son of the late Joseph R. Fournier and Olive (Allain) Fournier, he was born and raised in Salem, Mass. He attended St. Joseph’s School through the eighth grade and then completed his high school education at the Salem Vocational School. After graduation, he joined the Marines in February of 1953 and served until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. He then went to work for Leader’s Lasts, where he made shoe Lasts until he retired due to disability in 1974.
Paul was outgoing and friendly. He was an avid hunter, fisher and outdoorsman and truly loved nature. He volunteered as a conservationist in the Salem woods for many years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Salem.
Paul is survived by his wife, Beverly, and his six children, Christine Brackett, Deborah Fournier, Paul G. Fournier Jr. and his wife, Lori, Mrs. Beverly Mello and her husband, Richard, Joseph Fournier and his wife, Tina, and Christopher Fournier. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visiting hours for Paul will take place on Monday, January 16, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street), Salem, MA 01970. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Ste. Anne’s Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
