Patricia A. "Pat"'s Story
Patricia A. ”Pat” (Blackburn) Kiernan, 79, of Vero Beach, Fla. and Magnolia, Mass., wife of the late Arthur D. Kiernan, passed away in her home, with her family at her side, on Thursday, June 1, 2017.
Patricia was born in Charleston, W.V. on January 31, 1938, the daughter of the late Denzel Othello and Nellie (Hackney) Blackburn.
Pat grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in teaching.
She had a variety of interests. While being a voracious reader, novels were at the top of her list. It was followed by her love of theatre and gardening. She was an extremely handy and crafty woman. Her love of sewing, pottery, knitting, and needlepoint kept her hands and mind very busy. She also enjoyed golf, where Pat played at her beloved Vero Beach Hawks Nest Club in Florida as well as the Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass. But of all these pastimes, her grandchildren were her number one passions.
She will be missed by her family as well as many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Kiernan Pazdar; her sons, Douglas Kiernan and his wife, Veronica of Hamilton, Mass., Jeff Kiernan and his wife, Julia of Winchester, Mass.; her grandchildren, Kiernan, Curtis, Paulina, Julian, Jack, Bridgett, Finnbarr, Shane, Will, Blain, and Jacob; as well as her great-grandson, Jaxson. She was predeceased by her son, Arthur; her sister, Sharon; and her brother, Larry.
Her visiting hour will be held on Wednesday, June 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, followed by her funeral service in the Union Congregational Church, 3 Norman Ave., Magnolia at 11 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her burial will be in Seaside Cemetery, in the Lanesville section of Gloucester.
