Pat Zumstein, beloved wife of Louis Zumstein, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 3rd of May, in Marblehead, after 86 years of a life well-lived, and well-loved by her family and many friends.
Pat is survived by her husband; her three children, Louis, Patricia (Trish) and Paige; her daughter-in-law, Vicki and son-in-law Skip; her two grandchildren, Sophia-Maria and Rufo; her brother, Arthur; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was a Southern gal, raised in Savannah, and on a farm just outside of Brooklet, Ga. When she turned 18, she headed back to Savannah, where she met the love-of-her-life and her future husband, Lou, who had just graduated from the Coast Guard Academy. They were stationed in many places in the U.S., including Hawaii, Governor’s Island (their fav!), Cape Cod, and Miami, as well as overseas in Bermuda and the Philippines.
Pat and Lou moved to Marblehead in 1983, after Lou retired from the Coast Guard as Rear Admiral and Commandant of the First District. Pat was an accomplished photographer and an absolute artist with flowers; her flower boxes won awards, made the cover of Better Homes & Gardens and were appreciated every year by all who walked down Circle Street. Pat and Lou had the great joy of spending many hours with their two adored grandchildren. Pat also made many friends during her more than 30 years in Marblehead, who will miss her dearly.
A Funeral Service will be held in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 26 Pleasant Street, Marblehead on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Pat’s name may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Marblehead, MA 01945. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead. To share a memory of Pat or to offer a condolence to her family, please visit www.eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com.
