Mrs. Dorothy's Story
Mrs. Dorothy (Homan) Crane, 97, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Joseph Crane died Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Jeffrey and Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody.
Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Hammond and Edna (McIntyre) Homan.
Raised and educated in Beverly, she was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1935.
Mrs. Crane had been employed with the New England Telephone Company. She then focused all her love and attention to raising her beloved family. She took immense pride in providing a warm and loving home for her husband and children.
Dorothy was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games and cheering on her favorite team. Family was paramount in her life. She was greatly devoted to her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary Crane of Osterville and Judith Smith of Laconia, N.H.; her sons, Thomas Crane and his wife, Patricia of Salem, Joseph J. Crane, Jr. and his wife, Maureen of Georgetown; her seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margery MacCarthy of Beverly and Bernice Brackett of Jefferson, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by brothers, William Homan, Richard Homan, and Robert Homan; sisters, Norma Barbin and Frances Cammett; and her son-in-law, Philip Smith.
Dorothy's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Jeffrey and Susan Brudnick Center for Living for the care and support given to Dorothy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, on Friday, July 14 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Thursday, July 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Jimmy Fund, P.O.
