Mary M. (Quartarone-Wojick)'s Story
Mrs. Mary M. (Quartarone-Wojick) Lydon, 88, of Salem, the beloved wife of the late Austin C. Lydon, died peacefully Monday morning, March 13, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born and raised in Salem, daughter of the late Rosario and Margaret (Arena) Quartarone of Sicily, Italy, she received her education in the Salem school system.
Mary was employed for many years at Filene's Department Store and later in the Beverly school system. She lived for over 40 years in Beverly and raised her family there, before returning to Salem to live.
She was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem and was a member of the Ladies Sodality of the church. She was a member of the League of Catholic Women and for many years ran the Beano at St. Mary’s Italian Church. She also volunteered and assisted with the Beano at St. John the Baptist Church in Salem and with the Swampscott Senior Center Beano.
Mary is survived by a son, Donald Wojick of Everett; a daughter, Domenica “Sis” Wojick of Salem; and a son, Ronald Wojick of Kentucky; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews. She was also sister of the late Ida Quartarone, Jennie Amato, Frank Quartarone and Anthony Marraffa.
Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, Thursday, March 16, at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
