Louise (Hill)'s Story
Mrs. Louise H. Riley, wife of late Nelson F. Riley of Danvers, married 63 years, passed away on July 27, 2017.
Louise was born in Methuen, the daughter of a prominent dairy farmer, the late Morris S. Hill and the late Helen Rother Hill.
Louise graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen and also the Katherine Gibbs School, Boston.
Louise sang in the choir of the Vine Street Methodist Church in Lawrence, and met her husband while she was a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Grace Episcopal Church in Lawrence where she also sang in the choir.
They lived in Lawrence for a few years before settling in Danvers. When her children reached school age, she was first employed as a cafeteria monitor at the Thorpe School, and then was at Hunt Memorial Hospital where she was a ward secretary, helped develop the Order Central Department, and then became ward secretary coordinator. She retired from that position in 1987.
She joined Danvers Garden Club in 1983, and served as conservation chairman, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, design chairman, and was treasurer for seven years.
Louise had been a volunteer at the North Shore Music Theater since 1993 where she was an usher, had worked in the publicity department, and helped the box office with mailings. She became a member of the YMCA Sterling Center in 1998, and was in the water aerobics class. She was also a member of the Danvers Historical Society.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Joanne R. Spurr and her husband, Ralph B. of Newton, N.H., her son, Gregg N. Riley and his wife, Julie of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren, Mellissa Jo Cornell and husband, Jeff of Lakeville, Justin R. Spurr and his wife, Kelly of Georgetown, Curtis N. Riley of Austin, Texas, Rachel A. Riley of Lakewood, Colo., and Austin T. Riley of Round Rock, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Riley, and Landon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Louise was predeceased by her two sisters, Barbara Pearson and Carolyn Rousseau.
Her Funeral Service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, Wednesday, August 2, at 11:15 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.
