Louis J.'s Story
Louis J. Turlo, 81, retired Beverly Firefighter, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 27, 2017 in the Beverly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn M. (Morse) Turlo.
Born in Peabody on November 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Marie B. (Claveau) Turlo. He had resided in Salem for several years before moving to Beverly seventy-five years ago. He was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1954. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Charles P. Cecil before being honorably discharged in 1958.
Louis was employed as a firefighter for the City of Beverly for thirty years. He had also owned and operated L.J. Turlo Trucking Co. for many years. Louis was a member of Beverly Firefighters Local #1669, Herman A. Spear Post #331, American Legion, Bass Haven Yacht Club and a former member of the Beverly Elks Club. He also enjoyed playing guitar in several local bands.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by two daughters, Lynne A. Turlo and her companion, Lisa Hickey of Swampscott and Lori A. Baldwin and her husband, Robert of Beverly; three sons, Michael J. Turlo and his wife, Beth of Mesquite, Texas, Jeffrey A. Turlo and his wife, Lorna of Lynn and Joseph L. Turlo and his wife, Susan of Epping, N.H.; five grandchildren, Travis Turlo and his wife, Rebecca, Anjela and Erica Turlo and Kiersten and Ashley Turlo and one great-grandson, Bentley Kayden Cruz.
