Lillian Ann (Cunningham)'s Story

Mrs. Lillian Ann (Cunningham Twomey of Salem, died in a local nursing home after a brief illness on Wednesday July 5, 2017. She is the wife of James “Jim” Twomey. She was the daughter of the late John and Anne G. (Bourque) Cunningham. Lil was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s Girls High School, then worked at General Electric Company where she met her beloved husband of 57 years, Jim. They married in 1959 and were especially proud to be named the” Bride and Groom of the Year” by the Daily Evening Item.
Lillian was a devoted wife and mother to her three sons. She was a homemaker for many years and returned to work as a Paraprofessional at Salem High School. Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling, spending many winters in Naples, Florida. She was a devoted grandmother, actively involved in her grandchildrens’ lives. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends and neighbors, enjoying dining out, cookouts and campfires.
She is survived by her beloved husband James “Jim” Twomey, her three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kathy of Salem, Scott and Linda of Methuen and Steve and Mary Jane of Marblehead, her grandchildren Matthew, Kevin, Greg, Colleen, Catherine, Cameron, David, Sean, Ashley, Haily and six great-grandchildren. She is the sister of John Cunningham and his wife, Carol, James Cunningham and his wife, Linda, Marie Ryan and her husband, Bruce. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of New England, 101A 1st Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451.
