Kathleen M.'s Story
Mrs. Kathleen M. (O'Leary) Callahan, 96, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Michael Joseph Callahan Jr., died Monday, April 24th, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Anna G. (Barry) O'Leary. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. She continued her education at Salem State College graduating in 1941.
Mrs. Callahan had been employed for many years as an educator in the Salem Public Schools. She was an elementary school teacher at the Horace Mann School until the time of her retirement.
A lifelong resident of the city of Salem, Kathleen was a devoted and faithful catholic. She was an active communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem and volunteered her time with the Catholic Daughters of America and the North Shore Catholic Charities. She was kind and loving person who will be deeply missed.
Kathleen is survived by her nephews, John O'Leary of Amesbury and James O'Leary Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Mukilteo, Washington; her niece, Katie McReyonlds of Buffalo, New York; her nephews, Michael McReyolds of Lopez, Washington, and a dear friend, Paul LeGrow of Danvers.
Her funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Square (At Salem Common) Salem, on Monday, May 1st at 9:30 a.m. followed by her funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
