John K.'s Story
John K. Jodrie, 80, of Main Street, died early Tuesday, January 24, 2017, in the Den-Mar Health and Rehabilitation in Rockport, following his extended illness. He was the husband of the late Mary D. (Enquist) Jodrie.
Born in Peabody on July 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary L. (Rosa) Jodrie. He was raised in Peabody, where he was educated in the public schools. Following high school during the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Europe. Married in 1960 in Peabody, the Jodries made their home on Bartholomew Street for several years, later relocating to Topsfield Road in Ipswich. He later resided in Seabrook before moving to his daughter’s home in Rowley. A machinist by trade, he was a longtime employee of General Electric in Lynn and Everett, from which he retired in 1988.
In addition to his family and friends, John enjoyed spending time fishing and boating in the local waters. He was a longtime member of the AMVETS Post 201 in Ipswich.
He is survived by his son, John Jodrie of Rowley; daughters, Deborah Humphrey and her husband, David of Ipswich, Cindy Gavin and her husband, Glenn of Rowley; grandchildren, Kelsey and Jake Gavin of Rowley; his sister, Laraine Ortins of Maine; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Jodrie and Walter Jodrie, both formerly of Salem; Robert Jodrie, formerly of Pennsylvania and Connie Mello, formerly of Peabody.
His funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, January 27, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
