John D. "Jay"'s Story
John D. “Jay” Hurley Jr., age 54 years, of Beverly passed away March 7th at Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers. He was the father of Veronica Elizabeth Hurley of Beverly and the son of John Daniel “Jack” and Elizabeth Jane (Bullerwell) Hurley of Beverly.
He loved to spend summers fishing and lobstering from his boat and enjoyed making models of homes, boats, airplanes and rockets. Skiing in New Hampshire was also a pleasure.
For many years, he was employed by his uncle Ron Gallagher of Peabody, J. and W. Marine in Salem, and self-employed. Jay also worked for New England Carpenters.
In addition to his daughter and parents, Jay is survived by many loving aunts and uncles including Jeannie Pitman of Salem, Grace Bullerwell of Kingston, N.H., Donald Bullerwell of Florida, Sue and Jim De Costa of Tennessee and Coralie and Barry Fritz of Peabody; his dear cousins, Cheryl Cain of E. Walpole, Andew Hurley of Beverly, Sue Santos, Lisa Finkenzeller, Bill Pitman, Timothy Pitman of Salem, Cindy Healy, Dana Bullerwell, Beckie Perlupo, Sean Bullerwell, Donna Bean of NH, Jamie Gallagher of Vermont, Chris Gallagher of Peabody and Bonnie De Costa Downey of Haverhill; his godchild, Bethany Hurley Thompson of Beverly and his brother-in-law, Glenn MacRae of Stratham, N.H. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and second cousins. He was also the brother of the late Robin Leigh (Hurley) MacRae, grandson of the late C. Andrew Hurley and Margaret Rose (O'Connell) Hurley and Harry S. Bullerwell and Wilma F. (Butler) Bullerwell and nephew of the late Robert A. Hurley and wife Janet T. (Bjork) Hurley, Harry Bullerwell and Will Pitman.
His Funeral Service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private.
