John A.'s Story
John A. Goodwin, Professional Land Surveyor, of Middleton left us Tuesday for a better place.
Since moving to Middleton in 1961 he was very active serving the community. Civically he served in the U.S. Army, had been a member of the Jaycees, Kiwanis, the American Legion and the Masons, was a member of the Planning Board for Middleton's original master plan and the Northshore Regional Vocational Technical School Planning Committee and recently served on the Middleton Board of Health. He volunteered his land surveyor knowledge to the Board of Assessors. Spiritually he demonstrated his faith through tutoring at the Middleton Jail, answering calls for The Samaritans in North Andover, serving as a Junior Warden and Befriender at Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield and welcoming many disadvantaged people into his home. He and his wife spent Tuesdays volunteering at Bread and Roses, a soup kitchen in Lawrence, for 13 years. He's was a Scout Master and Little League Coach. In an era past, he motivated local teenagers to participate in blood drives as well.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne (Sue) Goodwin, sons Warren Goodwin, Peter Goodwin and his wife Janice, and Stephen Goodwin, all of Middleton and daughter Meredith Goodwin and her wife, Julie Wright of Westminster as well as grandchildren, Matthew, Derek and Jessica of Middleton and Nicholas Goodwin of Austin, Texas. He was predeceased by his loving foster son, David Wentworth.
Relatives and friends are kindly welcome to visitation on Friday, May 12th, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Rt. 114, Middleton.
