James L.'s Story
James L. George, 82, passed away on April 4, 2017. He was the husband of Helen (Tgettis) George, with whom he spent 57 years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on August 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Louis and Georgia (Kotredes) George. Jim was a life-long resident of Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1953. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Jim joined the Danvers Police Department in 1966 and retired in 1990. He was always a welcome presence in the Square. Upon retirement, Jim started working at Henry’s of North Beverly, where he spent over 25 years.
Jim was active in the Danvers community, starting a youth center in 1975. He was also an active volunteer with Operation Troop Support for 12 years and collected donations every Saturday in Danvers Square, rain or shine. Jim was also a town meeting member for many years as well.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, James (Jay) and Nicole George of Danvers, and William and Cheryl George of Danvers; two grandchildren, Melissa George and Sam Acciavatti; two siblings, Marlene Glynos and Angelo George, both of Danvers; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his sister, Freda Keohane, and his brother, John George.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem.
