J. Merle's Story
J. Merle (Campbell) Sillars, beloved wife of the late Frederick S. Sillars, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 8, 2017, at the age of 96.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late J. Malcolm and Manila D. (York) Campbell.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School and Boston Trade School for Girls.
She was a longtime member of the Centerville Christian Endeavor Church in Beverly, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Merle had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, ceramics, and baking. Merle and Fred enjoyed spending their summer vacations in North Conway, N.H. with many friends and family members.
Following their retirement, they enjoyed traveling in Europe and the United States. Merle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, devoted sister, and friend.
She is survived by her son, George M. Sillars and his wife, Faith of Pittsfield, N.H.; a daughter, Janice S. Rand and her husband, Mark of Ipswich; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; her sister, Elaine Hardy and her husband, Wilbur of Wenham, Lillian Salvo of Salem; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Carl D. Campbell, Ellison M. Campbell, Vernon W. Campbell, and her sister, Marjorie E Godfrey.
Her funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Online condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
