Irving A.'s Story
Irving A. Knight age 82, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Priscilla (Dechene) Furnari-Knight. He was born on August 4, 1934 to the late Augustus Roy and Mildred (Simmons) Knight.
Irving was a fierce competitor but Pancreatic cancer proved to be more powerful and less caring than Irv every deserved. Diagnosed in February of this year, typical Irv fought the good fight until the end with humor, patience, kindness, and bravery.
He graduated Beverly High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after two years, enrolled in Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston, where he received a degree in Accounting. He retired from John Hancock Life Insurance as an agent and enjoyed a part-time position in security at Ferncroft Towers (Double Tree by Hilton Boston North Shore) in Danvers.
An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Irv loved being challenged and could remember dates and stats to everyone’s amazement. He found immense pleasure in joining his “pals” for a round of golf at what he fondly called “Beverly Gin and Tonic” grabbing a beer and watching “the game."
Irv is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Dechene) Furnari-Knight. He was especially proud to be “Father” to sons Peter Furnari Jr. and wife, Therese (Sauvageau), Paul Furnari and wife Nancy (Gillis); daughters, Kristen McCullough-Davis and husband Dave, and Lauren Furnari. “Grandfather” to grandchildren, Kyle McCullough and wife, Jordan (D’Elia), Amanda (Furnari) Barror and husband, Bill, Nicole and Miranda Furnari, Griffin, Skylar, and Colby Davis; and “Great-Grandfather” to great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Barror, and Easton McCullough. Irving is also survived by a brother Francis Knight, many nieces and nephews, many friends will miss the “EYE,” only one Irv. He was predeceased by siblings, Augustus Earl Knight, Russell Knight, Beatrice Payne, Ruth Pitzer, Mary Howard, Agnes Hathaway, and June Bouchard.
Funeral services will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Thursday, April 27. 2017 at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
