Irmgard Dorrer, wife of the late Karl Dorrer, passed away peacefully Monday July 10, 2017 in Salem, Mass. at the age of 88.
Irmgard was born and raised in Seukendorf, Germany by her late parents Johann and Berta Krautlein. Growing up in Seukendorf, she attended schools throughout her childhood and continued her education at the Technical Career School in Nurnberg, Germany.
While there, she met the love of her life, Karl Dorrer, in Germany and got married in 1947. She later gave birth to her two children, John Dorrer and Karin Harring shortly after.
After her education, she began her career at Grundig in Furth, Germany for six years (1953-1959) before she emigrated to the United States in Peabody, Mass.
She then moved, with her family, to the neighboring town of Salem, and resided for the rest of her life. Irmgard continued her career in the Electronics Industry from 1960 to 1999. She faced adversities as a women working in the industry, but she was able to make a positive impact while making life long connections with friends throughout her time there.
She continued onto becoming the Quality Control Supervisor at Varian in Beverly.
She took many trips back home to Germany over the years, which inspired her to seek out German foods and breads when she would return home. She spent her free time as a baker of fine cakes and always kept her heritage in mind. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Salem Hospital Gift Shop as well as the Lighthouse Thrift Shop in Marblehead.
Her family and friends will remember her for her endearing qualities of honesty and humor as she knew how to spread laughter and joy throughout her life well lived.
Irmgard leaves behind her son John Dorrer and spouse Laura of Brunswick, Maine; daughter, Karin Harring and spouse Paul of Beverly; her grandchild, Kristen Olberding and spouse Ryan of Louisville, Ky.; her great-grandchildren, Madison and Brendan Olberding and her dear friend, Gordon Hardy.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem, Mass. Funeral service will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
