Irene (Rene) Woronoff, formerly of Beverly and Andover, passed away peacefully at Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield on April 29, 2017. Born on April 15, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., to immigrant parents, Eva Ansell (nee Margolis) and Joseph Ansell, Rene was the youngest of five children. The family later moved to Washington, D.C., where Rene graduated from Roosevelt High School and where, in 1947, she met her future husband, Bernard (Bernie) Woronoff. The couple wed on January 4, 1948, and remained happily married for more than 63 years until Bernie’s death in 2011. Rene and Bernie moved, along with their four children, from Washington, D.C., to Beverly in 1968. From 1969 until her retirement 39 years later, Rene worked for Dr. Harold Kaplan of Beverly. Rene is survived by her four children, Jan Woronoff and husband, Jimmy Townsend of Hedgesville, W.V.; Air Force Colonel (ret.) Dale Rice and husband, Bill Rice of Georgetown, Mass.; Rob Woronoff and husband, Tom Tarr of Los Angeles and Cathedral City, Calif.; and Mark Woronoff and wife, Cal Woronoff of Portland, Maine; her three grandchildren, Adam Woronoff of Los Angeles, Calif.; Aaron Rice of Taos, N.M.; and Blake Rice of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; as well as by Bernie and Rene’s French daughter, Veronique Lance of Salisbury, Md. Rene is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose warm smile and wonderful homemade cookies, pies, and chocolates were cherished by all who knew her.
