Idalia S.'s Story
Idalia S. (Ferreira) Gomes, 86, beloved wife of Augustus J. Gomes Sr., died Friday, May 12, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Alfred G. and Jennie (Santos) Ferreira. She was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School.
Mrs. Gomes was a dedicated wife and devoted her life to raising her family. Sis, as she was known to friends and family, volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the C.L.C. Club in Peabody, the Vittori Rocci Post in Beverly, and the Portuguese/American War Veterans in Peabody. Sis also ran her own ceramic studio for over 25 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Susan King and her husband, Roger of Beverly, Maria Kuhl and her husband, Lester of Hampstead, N.H., and Erin Emery of Fremont, N.H.; two sons, James Gomes and his wife, Dina of Beverly and Augustus J. Gomes Jr. and his wife, Karen of Beverly; 10 grandchildren, Alicia, James, Janelle, Heather, George, Jessica, Eric and Evan, Alicia and Nathan; seven great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Fiona, Aubrey, Kai, Nicholas, Zachariah, Brooke; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Roy Ferreira.
Her funeral service will be celebrated at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hour on Wednesday, prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
