Helen J. (Cook)'s Story

Mrs. Helen J. (Cook) Foley, 81, of Salem, died Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Care One of Peabody, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Wenham, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Alice (Dunning) Cook. She was raised and educated in Wenham and graduated Beverly High School.
Mrs. Cook had been employed as a teacher's aide in the Special Education Department at Salem High School for many years, were she was known for her patience and dedication to the children.
A longtime resident of the City of Salem, Helen was active in the Salem Common Playground Association and was in charge of the summer outings to Nantasket and Canobie Lake Parks. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved canoeing.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen always put her family first, providing a warm and loving home for them. She was known as Mom by many and was always surrounded by children, most importantly were her grandchildren, who she took great pride in spoiling. Helen will be remembered for her caring spirit, community involvement and the unconditional loved and encouragement she offered to all she met. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and the many lives she touched over the years.
Surviving Helen are her daughters, Kathryn Foley of Peabody, Cynthia Dube and her husband, Leo of Lebanon, Maine, and Nancy Foley of Salem; her sons, Robert Foley Jr. and his wife, Pauline of Lynn, Patrick Foley and his wife, Debra of Salem, Stephen Foley of Lynn and Shawn Foley and his wife, Karen of New Hampshire; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Danielle, Patrick and Ryan Foley, James Walker, and Leo and Erica Dube; a great-granddaughter, Alana Dube; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late James Foley.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service which will be held in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common), Salem on Wednesday, August 30, at 10 a.m. Burial in Wenham Cemetery.
