George R.'s Story
Mr. George R. Stecker, age 86 years, husband of the late Phyllis M. Stecker, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017. He was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, son of the late George and Mary Ivy (Ecker) Stecker.
Mr. Stecker was retired at the time of his death.
George graduated in 1953 from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. Following graduation, George was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and earned his pilot wings at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. He served as a pilot while stationed on various Air Force bases in the continental United States and Alaska.
In 1957 George resigned from the Air Force and began a civilian career. He started at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, Connecticut as an engineer. Following that experience, he went to Honeywell, Lexington, MA and to Textron Defense System, Wilmington, MA in a government and international marketing career.
His niece, Mary Ivy Noone and her husband, Roger Noone of Warrington, Pa., survive George. He was the brother of the late Ivy Bayard, Alma Zierath, Ray Stecker, Kenneth Stecker, Jean Dees, and Robert Stecker.
A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester by the Sea on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
