George A.'s Story

Mr. George Anthony Cretecos, Sr., 89, of Danvers, beloved husband of Yvonne Irene (Albanese) Cretecos, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late George John and Mildred E. (McDermott) Cretecos. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He continued his education at Northeastern University following his honorable discharge, earning his degree in Industrial Engineering.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army. He graduated from Officer Candidate School and spent his active duty with the U.S. Army. He continued his dedication to his country as a member of the United States Army reserves earning the rank of Lt. Colonel, until the time of his retirement.
Mr. Cretecos was trained as an engineer, and for his entire professional career worked as a Electrical Engineering Plant Manager with Solid State Products, G.T.E in Rhode Island, Varian in Beverly, Unitrode and finally Textron Industries, retiring in 1992. He was known for his professionalism and attention to detail.
An avid sailor and longtime resident of the town of Danvers, George was dedicated and devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Yvonne Irene (Albanese) Cretecos of Danvers; his children, George Cretecos, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Loveland, Colo., Carol Conklin and her husband, Richard of Boxford, Lisa Dean and her husband, Robert of Danvers and Mark Cretecos and his wife, Tricia of Northport, Fla.; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Kristen Cretecos, Richard Conklin and his wife, Jessica, Meghan Conklin, and Katie Dean and her fiancé, Paul Matteis and Robert Dean III and Alicia Dean; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John George Cretecos, James Albert Cretecos and Alice Dorothy Cullen.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass which will be held in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant Street, Danvers, Wednesday, May 17 at 9 a.m. As requested, visiting hour omitted and burial is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers.
