Flaviano A.'s Story
Mr. Flaviano "Sonny" A. Vetro, 83, of Salem, beloved husband of the late Anabea (Gallo) Vetro, died peacefully Tuesday evening, May 2, 2017.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Giacamo and Antima (Casale) Vetro. Sonny was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1952.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Vetro spent many years as President of the Local UE 22. He was employed with Osram Sylvania for 40 years, until the time of his retirement.
A longtime resident of the city of Salem, Sonny was a member of the Christopher Columbus Society of Salem, the Italian Community Center in Beverly and the American Legion, Herman A. Spear Post #331 in Beverly.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking out and traveling with his most dear relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Sonny is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Coiro and her husband, Stephen of Salem and Nancy Carter-Bobroff of Pelham, N.H.; his sons, Joseph Vetro and his wife, Julie of Peabody and James Vetro and his wife, Alyssa of Elkridge, Md.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Angelina "Chicki" Meeks.
His funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
