Eugene "Gene" Szalla, Jr., died April 20, 2017. Born to Helen and Eugene Szalla, Sr. of Lockport, N.Y., Gene lived with his partner, Jeffrey Ostrer in Boxford, Mass., since 1984. Gene also leaves his sister, Michelene Szell of Williamsville, N.Y.; niece, Willow Cheeley-Driscoll of Andover; and cousins in New York and Florida. Gene was a commercial space planner and designer in eastern Massachusetts. He was known for both his gentle kindness and passionate bluntness. His creative energy, his bravery and his productivity were boundless. Until his rest, he was in ceaseless motion his entire life.
