Dr. Arthur's Story
Dr. Arthur S. Lurie, of Peabody, formerly of Chelsea, Lynnfield, and Swampscott, entered into rest on July 11, 2017, at the age of 89.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Leon and Sophie (Merochnick) Lurie. Following Boston Latin School, Arthur attended Tufts College and earned his degree in medicine at Tufts Medical School. He completed his medical training at University of Chicago, Boston City Hospital, New England Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition, he proudly served as a Captain in the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force where he was a flight surgeon. Upon leaving the service, Dr. Lurie had a medical practice in Peabody for 30 years; followed by a career in occupational and industrial medicine.
Dr. Lurie is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Phyllis (Fox) Lurie. He was the devoted father of Andrew Lurie and his wife, Stacy Parker-Lurie of Peabody, Ellen Brody and her husband, Jonathan of Andover, and David Lurie and his wife, Debra of Livingston, N.J.; and cherished grandfather of Adam Brody, Dena Brody, Samuel Lurie, Michael Lurie and Belle Lurie.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at Brooksby Village Chapel, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Polonnoe Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org); or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel.
