Dorothy F. (Corbett)'s Story
Mrs. Dorothy F. (Corbett) McCarthy, 98, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. McCarthy, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at The Lafayette in Marblehead, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lynn on July 19, 1918, she was the daughter of Francis C. and Mary E. (Burke) Corbett. She attended Lynn schools and graduated from English High School, Class of 1936.
Dorothy married Thomas J. McCarthy on April 13, 1941. He died February 22, 2009. They had a very happy marriage and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a party at their home in Salem.
A very active person, Dorothy volunteered for many organizations through the years, including Catholic Daughters, Women's Friends, the Thrift Shop at Salem Hospital, and Brother's Table which served food to others.
She enjoyed ballroom dancing with Tom for many years and traveled with him to Europe and Hawaii. She bowled weekly until she achieved her personal best of four strikes in a row where upon she retired while she was ahead.
She was an avid reader with mystery stories a favorite choice. Her favorite things were her family and friends. Her positive approach to life earned her the affection of those she met.
Dorothy is survived by her nephew, Keith McCarthy; seven nieces, Kathy Brewster, Karen Langurand, Kim Ege, Lois Lenehan, Carolyn Brady, Claire Rodrigues, and Norma Conley; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was also the sister of the late Virginia Brady and aunt of the late Kenneth McCarthy.
Her funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn.
