Doris H. (Leming)'s Story
That smile says it all. Heather (Leming) de Vos, age 92, longtime Merrimac resident, passed Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late A. Carlyle “Carl” de Vos, who passed on May 31, 2008.
Born on October 18, 1924, in Ulapane, Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, she was the daughter of the late John and Winnifred Leming.
In 1961, with a twinkle in her eyes and determination in her heart, she announced to her beloved, Carl that they were going to the United States. So, he left to start a new beginning in Marblehead. Doris made the journey halfway across the world shortly after with five children. Her love, determination and will was experienced by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, her life was devoted to her family. There was no greater joy than sharing her love of life with them and teaching them the value of caring, giving, understanding, helping, little acts of kindness and the gift of laughter.
Those left behind to treasure the gift of her life are her three daughters, Trudy Arnold and husband, Arthur, Tarnya de Vos, and Gail Cheri Carvalho and husband, Frank; her two sons, Arlen de Vos and partner, Betty, Delmer de Vos and wife, Karen; along with her 12 grandchildren, whom she lovingly called “The Dirty Dozen” and her 16 great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and dear friends.
Visiting hours at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac will be Sunday, March 5, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services and burial in Locust Grove Cemetery will be private for the family.
