Donald Raymond's Story

Mr. Donald Raymond Lemire, 89, of Salem, beloved husband of Patricia (Veno) Lemire, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at Salem Hospital.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Grace (Harkins) Lemire. He was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem High School.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Lemire served upon the U.S.S. Ralph Talbot and was a member of Joint Task Force One, where he was a witness of the First Atomic Bomb in the South Pacific.
Mr. Lemire began his professional career in the leather industry working for various leather companies on the North Shore. He had been employed for many years with the City of Salem School Department in the Maintenance Department. He had worked at many schools throughout the city including the Phillips School and for many years at Salem High School until the time of his retirement.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Don was a lifelong resident of the City of Salem. He was a long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 18 in Salem and the American Legion of New Hampshire. He was a true sports enthusiast and loved following and ardently supporting his beloved Salem High Witches. Along with his wife, Don spent every Wednesday for lunch and fellowship at Winter Island in Salem with a special group of friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia (Veno) Lemire of Salem; his children, James F. Lemire and his wife, Juanita of Lebanon, N.H., Linda Symington and her husband, Ralph of Groveland, Margaret Lemire of Salem and John J. Lemire of Salem; his grandchildren, Jay Lemire of NY, NY, Angela DeCamp of Cornish, N.H. and Renee Picca of Canaan, N.H.; his great-grandchildren, Harper and Devin and several nieces and nephews including his godchild, Donna Lemire. He was the brother of the late John Lemire; his twin brother, Harvey Lemire, Elliot Lemire and Margaret Millett.
His funeral service will be held in The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Thursday, Oct. 5th at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial is private.
