Donald E.'s Story

Donald E. Browning, 87, died early Friday morning February 10, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of the late Beverly A. (Hamor) Browning. Born in Salem on April 21, 1929 he was the son of the late Stuart D. and Mary (Nelson) Browning.
Mr. Browning was brought up in Beverly Cove. He attended Beverly Public Schools, St. John’s Prep and Boston University. He was a Navy veteran having served from 1948 to 1952. Mr. Browning was employed as an insurance adjustor for a number of years. Later he formed his own interior painting and decorating business. In early years he enjoyed skiing and in later years sailing and gardening. Mr. Browning was a member of the Manchester Club, the 1920 Amaral-Bailey Post# 113 American Legion and the Hamilton-Wenham Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Browning was predeceased by his wife Beverly on January 10, 2010.
Mr. Browning is survived by his four children, Elizabeth Browning of Essex, Rebecca B. DeLong of Nederland, CO and her husband, Paul DeLong and grandson, Jacob, J. Kelley Browning of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and his wife, Colleen and grandsons, Jonathan and Maxwell, David N. Browning also of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and his wife, Rhonda and granddaughter, Katherine. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth N. O’Donnell of Norwood. Mr. Browning was also predeceased by a sister, Gail Pickering formerly of Marblehead and two brothers, Bruce Browning formerly of Revere Beach and Brian Browning formerly of Essex.
A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday March 25, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish, 62 School Street in Manchester-by-the-Sea, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mr. Browning’s name to either St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
