Dolores A.'s Story
Dolores Ann (Barlow) Raphael, a longtime resident of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2017, in the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody at the age of 83. Born in Lynn on February 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Orford) Barlow. Dolores was raised and educated in Lynn and attended St. Mary’s School. In 1955, Dolores married the love of her life, Ralph J. Raphael, and the couple settled in Peabody with their growing family. Sadly in 1969, Ralph passed suddenly and Dolores was left to care for her family. She stayed strong throughout and worked various jobs to support her family, most notably SNH Green Stamps in Lynn as well as tending bar at the Falcons in Salem. Dolores enjoyed simple things like ice skating and skiing in her youth. She loved movies and singing and even sang on Saturday mornings on WLYN. After the loss of her husband, a Navy World War II Veteran, she became heavily involved with the VFW Post #1011 in Peabody. She served as past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the president in both the Cooties, Pup Tent #34 and VFW Auxiliary, District #10. Her youthful exuberance followed her into her golden years as she always loved singing and dancing. Through all her life’s passions, nothing could compare to Dolores’ love and dedication to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended families. Her sense of humor and love of laughter will be missed. Dolores leaves her children, Ralph D. Raphael and his wife, Judy of Dracut, Susan Mielniczuk and her husband, Simon of Ottawa, Ontario, Donald W. Raphael of Peabody, Cheryl A. Matthews of Marblehead, and Christopher J. Raphael and his wife, Marie of Boxford, as well as her 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Joan E. McGrath and her husband, Fred of Peabody, and Danielle Chakoutis, a grandniece to whom she was particularly close, as well as several nieces and nephews.
