Claire S. “Simone” (Catherine) Horgan, 89, of Beverly, formerly of Worcester and Nice, France, beloved wife of James T. Horgan, died Friday, September 29, 2017, at Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, she was the daughter of the late Andre and Eugenie (Bernardi) Catherine. She was raised and educated in France before emigrating to the United States where she continued her education receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Worcester State and her Master’s in French from Assumption College.
Mrs. Horgan dedicated her professional career to educating the youth in several communities. She was a French teacher in the Language Department at Wachusett Regional High School for over 20 years. Simone loved the French language, culture, and history, and travelled there several times with her students, showing them the many historical sites, and visiting le Louvre art museum. At retirement she was thanked by the “Consulat General de France” for her contributions to promoting the French language and culture, and developing and improving Franco-American amity. Following her retirement she returned to France for 20 years, before returning to the United States, eventually settling in Beverly.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Simone was as dedicated to her family as she was to education. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was most proud of her children and grandchildren and their many milestones and accomplishments. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband. She will be deeply missed.
Surviving Simone, in addition to her husband, James Horgan of Beverly, are her daughter, Michelle Dieudonne and her husband, Gabriel of Cagnes-Sur-Mer, France, and Daniel Horgan and his wife, Michelle of Hamilton; her six grandchildren, Alexandre and Elizabeth Dieudonne of France and Emily, Olivia, Paul and James of Hamilton; her brother, John Catherine of Avignon, France; and several nieces and nephews.
