Carl R.'s Story

Carl R. Peterson of Middleton, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2017, following a brief illness surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on April 20, 1929, in Lawrence, Mass. A lifelong Middleton resident, Carl was a line foreman at the Middleton Electric Light Department, later retiring as manager after over 30 years of service. He was a past president of the Middleton Board of Trade. Carl was also a dedicated Free Mason.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at his camp in Maine and later on traveling cross-country in his motor home with his beloved wife, Charlene. A lover of nature, he spent his leisure time camping in the white mountains with his family, hunting, fishing, skiing, and golfing. He was an avid card player with his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; his children, Margaret and her husband, John Halpin of Florida, Patricia and her husband, Douglas Freeman of Nevada, Heidi and her husband, Daniel Leveillee of Tennessee, Mark Quimby of Newton, N.H., Scott and his wife, Susan Quimby of Middleton, Mass., and Gregg and his wife, Caryn Quimby of Middleton, Mass. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erick Halpin, Holli Owen, Brett Quimby, Michaela Quimby, Kyle Quimby, Alicia Quimby, Amanda Quimby, Jack Quimby, and Aimee Quimby; as well as three great-grandchildren, Hayden Owen, Ellowyn Owen, Willow Halpin. Carl also leaves behind many friends from Alamo, Texas and Estero, Florida, where he and his wife spent their winters.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Middleton, MA. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
