Barbara R.'s Story

Barbara Ruth (Pecker) Tudal, of Celebration, Fla., formerly a longtime resident of Marblehead, passed away in the Florida Hospital in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the age of 90. Born in Lynn on March 30, 1927, she was daughter of the late Clifton and Leslie (Chipman) Pecker. Barbara was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She met her sweetheart, Rene H. Tudal, and soon after the couple was married in St. Jean’s Church in Lynn on September 11, 1949. After their marriage, they settled in Lynn to begin their lives together. Barbara and Rene spent over 44 years in marriage and love together, all while raising and caring for their family, until Rene’s passing in March of 1994. Barbara was employed for many years as a sales clerk at New England Stores, working in both the Market Square in Lynn and the location in Swampscott. She went on to work at Hood Sailmakers where she worked on some well-ordered spinnakers. She worked on the spinnaker for the film, “Benji” as well as the stars that were placed on the Bicentennial flag that flew over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in Brooklyn. Barbara also worked on the spinnakers for the yachts, Intrepid and Courageous as they both competed in the America’s Cup Yacht Races. In her retired years in Florida, Barbara was a 12 year member of the Celebrators, a member of the W.O.W. group at Community Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Red Hats, all located in Celebration, Fla. She loved taking cruises through the Caribbean Islands. Barbara loved to play BINGO and loved to volunteer her time at Disney’s “Give Kids the World Village.”

Barbara leaves her children, Susan Lovely and her husband, Stephen of Celebration, Fla., Steven Tudal, Sr. and his wife, Janet of Rowley, Thomas Tudal of Salem, and Barbara Amiro and her husband, Dennis of Beverly; her grandchildren, Tracy Gilman and her husband, Patrick, Steven Tudal, Jr. and his wife, Shannon, Ned Lovely and his wife, Moriah, Jill Lovely, and Kate Amiro; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Gilman, Noah Tudal, Riley Tudal, and Calla Lovely; and her brother, Clifton Parker of Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edith L. Triffitt, Marion Pickering, and Richard Pecker.
A funeral service will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
