Barbara I. (Cresoe)'s Story
It is with heavy hearts that we as a family announce the passing of Barbara Irene (Cresoe) Glidden. Barbara passed away peacefully at her home in Salem on Friday, February 10. She chose to end her life in the same way she lived it, in her own way, on her own terms and by her own rules. Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family, stray pets, the beach, sunshine, reading, casinos, bingo, and the laughter of children. Barbara especially loved traveling by cruise to ports around the world. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit, her kindness, her sense of humor, and her love of life.
Barbara was born and raised in Beverly, Mass. Her proudest accomplishment was in raising four children as a single parent. She was well known as the Manager of Space Age Cleaners in Amesbury. In her earlier years she tended bar at the Copa, Augustines, and the Hawthorne Hotel.
Barbara was the daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Bryer) Cresoe. She is survived by her children, Donnie Glidden of Salem, Donna Pedrone of Georgetown, Darlene Glidden of Acton and Dan Altman of San Diego, Calif. Barbara cared for many other children through the years, and her home was always open to anyone who needed it. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Breanna, Donnie, Christopher, Nicholas and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jayden. Barbara leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Lavern Saputo, Denny Beaton, Danielle Davis, and Corry Beaton. She was predeceased by her brother, Vern Warren, and her sister, Sharon Beaton.
Our family is forever grateful for the amazing staff at BIDMC, who gave us the gift of our mother for many years. You are our heroes! We’d especially like to thank Sue, Blanche, and Dr. Tawa, as well as the staff at Boston Home Infusion, Partners Health Care and VNA Hospice Care.
Her Funeral Service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
