Arthur F. “Archie”'s Story
Mr. Arthur F. “Archie” King, 85, of Byfield, beloved husband of the late Lydia (Niciewski) King, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at home.
Born, raised and educated in Peabody, he was the son of the late Fred A. and Charlotte (MacDonald) King.
Mr. King was employed by the city of Salem as a foreman with the Department of Public Works for over 30 years. His great leadership and dedication was well respected throughout the city of Salem.
He was also the proprietor of King's Auto Sales of Peabody and Salem. Archie was a master mechanic who loved to work on cars. His professionalism, attention to detail and kindness was always reflected in his work. He was always willing to go above and beyond to help others who were in need.
Archie had a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren. His family was truly his greatest joy. He enjoyed traveling to Florida with his wife and supporting his grandchildren throughout their many activities. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Archie will truly be missed.
Archie is survived by his daughter, Tammy M. Saffer and her husband, Gary of Georgetown; his son, Arthur “Artie” F. King, Jr. of Key West, Fla.; his grandchildren, Amanda Rose Saffer and Adam Saffer, both of Georgetown and Kaitlyn Dakota King of Orlando, Fla; his siblings, Elizabeth (Libby) Rechetnuk of Peabody, Donald King and his wife, Nancy of Salem, Allen “Butch” King and his wife, Pamela of Salem and Ronald King and his wife, Carol of Salem; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lydia and his siblings, George King, Fred King, William King and Edward Hutchinson.
His funeral service will be held in The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Tuesday, April 4, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Monday, April 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
