Text size

Angela Frances (O'Malley) Howes, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Maplewood Center in Amesbury, Mass. The daughter of Michael and Mary (Keoghan) O'Malley, Angela was born on September 13, 1944, in County Galway, Ireland.
In 1960, Angela and her older sister, Helen, emigrated to the USA and arrived in Philadelphia, Pa., and then moved to Cape Cod and worked as au pairs. In 1963 at a local bar in Dennis, Mass., called "Joe Mac's," Angela met her future husband, Albert Howes. They were married on Oct., 2 1965, at the Dennis Union Church. Due to a seasonal economy on the Cape, Albert, Angela and their first child, Albert Jr., moved northward, first to Beverly where Dennis was born and moved again to Methuen where Sean was born. It was when Albert, Sr. was delivering the Boston Herald on Great Neck in Ipswich that he saw a house for sale and the couple bought their first home and raised their boys on Bayview Road. For a time, Angela worked as visiting nurse and acquired her US citizenship in 1986. For St. Patrick's Day, Angela made the best Irish soda bread that no one has been able to duplicate.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Albert Howes, Sr., Albert, Jr., Dennis and his wife, Erin, and Sean and his wife, Amber; also three grandchildren, Laura, Sean, and Aiden Howes; her three sisters, Helen Oney of Baltimore Md., Bridie Schmidt of Marlton, N.J., and Pauline Mortimer of Renvyle, Ireland.
There will be no services but there will be a Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 70 Topsfield Road, Ipswich, MA 01938. Light refreshments and food will be served. Assisting the Howes family is the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich. To send a condolence to the family, please go to www.MorrisFH.com.
