BOSTON, MA - Walter O. Welch, Jr., 66, of Lynn died Friday, December 22, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane (Moorehouse) Welch with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Mary Adams Welch and Walter Welch Sr. Wally grew up in Salem and Peabody but has lived in Lynn for the past 40 years. He was a 35-year employee of the General Electric before he retired in 2012. He also worked for many years at multiple Dunkin Donuts. Wally was known as a caring, generous man by all who knew him. He loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, to ride his motorcycle, and to spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Oldham, and her fiancé, Ciaran O'Shea of Salem; his daughter, Stacy Welch and her fiancé, Robert Barrett of Lynn; as well as his three beloved grandchildren, Kayla Mary and her boyfriend, Randy, of Lynn, Thomas Oldham and Ryan O'Shea of Salem; and a great-grandson, Adrian Ramirez. He is also leaves behind his brother, John and wife, Rose Mary (Penny) Cimon of Utah, his sister Ellen and her husband James Nadeau currently residing in Belgium; his brother, Michael and his wife, Paula Welch of Beverly; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his best friend, James McNeely of Revere.
A celebration of life will be held, Friday, December 29, at the Knights of Columbus, Upper Hall, 177 Lynnfield St., Lynn, MA, from 5 to 9 p.m. All are welcome to come and share their fondest memories and stories of Wally.
