Victoria I. Simmons
A 20 year resident of Ipswich, Vic grew up in Haverhill, attended Walnut Square School, graduated Haverhill High School in ‘63. Vic began dancing school at 3 and through college. Vic was a Rainbow Girl, a Cheerleader, Point Guard for the Girls Basketball team, Editor of the Brown and Gold, and worked at Mitchell’s Department Store. Vic attended Bridgewater State College majoring in English/Education.
Vic loved her three children and was extremely proud of each of them. Yiayia adored her grandchildren and treasured her Sabine & Cole art and poetry. Their works empowered her to keep fighting cancer.
Victoria was a political activist in the 60s, a 15+ year Member of the Haverhill Democratic City Committee, and Member of the Ipswich Democratic Town Committee from 1999 until her diagnosis.
Victoria loved gardening, her cactus collection, and anything WGBH/PBS. The ocean was her true bliss. Vic was known as a great cook with requests for her famous Keftedes all the time. THE BEST! Victoria had boundless sarcastic humor, an inquisitive mind, and thirst for knowledge.
Victoria is survived by her husband, Robert G. Simmons, of Ipswich; her three children: Robert B. Simmons, his wife Juli, of Haverhill; Zachary N. Simmons, his wife Virginia, their two children, Sabine and Cole, of Haverhill; and by her daughter Antigone Z. Simmons of Ipswich. At Victoria’s request, a private cremation took place. Arrangements were by H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Haverhill and Bradford. A celebration of her life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Victoria and her family are willing to accept donations to offset funeral expenses, and medical bills from her fight with cancer.
