Stephen P.'s Story
Stephen P. O’Brien, Sr., 88, years of age, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, in Gloucester following a period of declining health.
He was the son of the late Peter P. O’Brien and Barbara (King) O’Brien. Raised in Beverly Farms, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Lynn and Bryant and Stratton Commercial School. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force, with the rank of Staff Sergeant having served during the Korean Conflict in Greenland where he met his future bride, Betty, the mother of his children. He was a retired Master Plumber and plumbing and heating contractor. He lived a full life; travel, sports and reading were his favorite past times. During retirement he enjoyed working the West Beach gate part time for a few summers, seeing many friends.
Steve was a member of the Manchester Club, Amaral Bailey Post #113 American Legion, Manchester, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Sheila O’Brien Egan and her husband, Robert of Nantucket, Barbara O’Brien, Stephen P. O’Brien, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, all of Beverly Farms; sister-in-law, Nancy O’Brien of Beverly Farms; grandchildren, Stephen, III, Peter, Christyne and Sean; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas J. O’Brien; sister, Barbara Patricia Gluckert; and daughter-in-law, Debi O’Brien. He leaves behind many friends in Beverly Farms, Manchester, and at Oceanview Assisted Living where he resided for the past three years.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 672 Hale St., Beverly Farms, Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in the Beverly Farms Cemetery. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
