SALEM - Shawn J. McDuff, age 49, of Salem, died unexpectedly at Salem Hospital on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was the husband of Maria DiScipio, with whom he shared 17 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, Shawn was the son of Joseph and Marie (Pepin) McDuff, of Nahant. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1986, the class he served as Senior Class Vice President. Shawn Earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Salem State College in 1990.
Shawn worked at the Independent Living Center of the North Shore and Cape Ann since 1990. He currently served as the Deputy Director at the center.
Shawn was an avid Bruins fan, and also of the Patriots and Red Sox "in that order." He was the former poster child for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1979. He had a great smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a hard worker and lived life to the fullest. He and his wife enjoyed taking cruises, dining out, and exploring cutting edge restaurants and food shows. He personified "The Measure of a Man." He was proud of his independence but was proudest in being able to help others achieve their independence.
In addition to his wife and parents, Shawn is survived by his sister, Shelli Mahan and her husband, James, of North Andover, and a niece, Megan Mahan, also of North Andover.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shawn J.
