N. Andover, MA - Sebastian Michael Jalbert, age 10, of North Andover, Mass., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 8, 2019, after an eight-year battle with cancer (Wilms Tumor).
He was born in Winchester, Mass., on March 26, 2009. Sebastian was beloved son of Jeffrey and Denise (Farrell) Jalbert. Sebastian received his education through the North Andover public school system; he was also a member of the Special Olympics summer games. Sebastian enjoyed swimming, playing with his Disney cars and planes, and loved to paint. Sebastian was diagnosed at the age of 18 months with non-verbal autism. Even though he could not express himself verbally, he had a lot to say. He taught his family and everyone who knew him that he loved listening to music with his headphones and watch television and at the same time and understood what was going on with both items. He was smart beyond his years and didn't allow his handicap to prevent him from enjoying his favorite things. But no matter what Sebastian was doing, he could count on his mom and dad to have his favorite snack readily available. Dorito's! He loved having his Dorito cheesy fingers so he could have every last crumb of the corners. Sebastian has the best method of eating his Dorito's, he was very particular about snapping the corners off first and creating new corners to snap off and snack on. After his many chemotherapy treatments, his diet changed; but the Dorito's stayed a favorite along with Nesquick chocolate milk, MacDonald's chicken nuggets, bologna, and hot dogs.
Besides his parents, Sebastian is survived by his paternal grandparents Ronald and Pamela Jalbert of Salem, Mass.; paternal grandmother Linda Chambers of Beverly, Mass.; paternal great-uncle Michael Rizzotti with whom Sebastian had a special relationship; paternal uncle Steven Jalbert of Salem, and paternal aunt Jennifer Lugo; along with his three cousins, Shawna, Miguel, and Sebastien Lugo, all of Salem, Mass.; paternal uncle Steven Grant of North Andover, Mass.; and paternal uncle Newton Murphy of Salem, Mass. Sebastian is also survived by his maternal great-grandmother Frances Jack of Milford, N.H.; maternal aunt Jessica Farrell of Haverhill, Mass.; maternal aunt/grandmother figure and godmother Lorraine Kearn and her spouse Rick Kearn of Milford, N.H.; and maternal aunt Alethea C. Cormier and cousin Rebecca Talavera from Lawrence, Mass. He also leaves behind his therapy dog Bentley who continues to look for Sebastian daily. Sebastian was predeceased by his maternal great-grandfather Warren (Papa) Jack Sr., maternal grandfather Robert (Papa) Farrell; paternal great-grandparents Henry (Tom) and Helen Jalbert; paternal great-grandparents Orlando and Louise Rizzotti; and great-uncle Richard Levesque and his wife Kathleen. The family has very special thanks to Andrea Barry of N. Andover, Mass. Andrea was Sebastian's primary hospice nurse but quickly became a part of Sebastian's family and would come to Sebastian's side at any time mom or dad had a concern. Andrea was with Sebastian as he peacefully passed.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Sebastian at St. Michael's Parish, Main St., North Andover, MA, on Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. Assisting the family is the Mackey Funeral Home, Middleton, Mass. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations be made in honor of Sebastian to the Jennifer Creed Fund. Founded in 1974, the Jennifer Creed Fund was established to help support the families of children with cancer or birth defects throughout New England. I only had the pleasure of meeting Sebastian once 6 years ago. This was at my brother’s wedding. Sebastian was so handsome. I could tell how much he was loved because every time I would see Jeff all he could do is talk about his son. You could see how proud both parents were. Although God only gave you 10 years with Sebastian he lived life to the fullest. Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Just know that he is pain free and will always be your special angel.
