Roderick G.'s Story
Roderick Gilbert Blessington, 86, longtime resident of Topsfield, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday at Brigham Manor in Newburyport. He was the beloved husband of Deborah Elizabeth (Tucker) Blessington. Born in Lynn, son of the late James B. and Florence (Steward) Blessington, he was raised in Marblehead, was a 1950 graduate of Marblehead High School, and went on to attend Nichols College. Following his education he joined the family trophy business. Rod was a devoted husband and father and was a hard working jack of all trades. He will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by his dear children, Kim Lucy Hingston of New Castle, Maine, Mark Tucker Blessington of Topsfield; two grandsons, John and Jeffrey Hingston, both of Maine; a sister, Marilyn Whalley of Cape Cod; three nephews, Dana and John Whalley, both of Cape Cod, Stewart Blessington of Ipswich; and a niece, Barbara Bucklin of Ipswich. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Ruth Blessington, formerly of Ipswich; and nephew, Scott Blessington formerly of Georgetown.
