Robert S.'s Story
Robert Samuel Gamble, 81, from Manchester-by-the-Sea, died on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Care One Center in Beverly surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Judith Mathews Gamble.
Born in Beverly on October 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert Henry Gamble and Pearl (Hilyard) Gamble. He was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1954.
Bob was a salesman throughout his life, began with opening the flagship Florsheim Shoe Store in Chicago, Ill., worked for a number of years at Hoopers Grocery, sold Knapp Shoes, and was most proud of opening his own retail store, Seacoast Footwear and Protective Clothing, in Magnolia, Mass., outfitting fishermen and workmen throughout the Northeast. His most recent endeavor, which spanned the past 20 years, was Seacoast Lobster Band Co., selling lobster bands to the commercial fishing industry, throughout the coast of Maine, making many dear friends along the way.
In addition to his strong work ethic and always providing for his family, Bob loved to travel with his wife and friends, cruising throughout the Caribbean and Alaska, and vacationing in Aruba and Naples, Fla. For years Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his vacation home on Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, N.H. Bob also enjoyed golfing with his wife and grandchildren and all types of fishing.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his son, Robert Scott Gamble and his fiancee, Lisa Zraket, of Manchester; five daughters, Wendy Fraser and her husband, Scott of Manchester, Brenda Gamble King and her husband, Dana of Essex, Julie Gamble Smith and her husband, Edward of Manchester, Susan Louise Doucette and her husband, James of Manchester, and Sandra Lee Knowlton and her husband, Charles of Amesbury; 18 grandchildren, Trevor, Logan and Sierra Gamble, Morgan and Courtney Fraser, Maxwell, Stuart and Ramsey King, Camden, Brittany and Annika Smith, William, Hillary, Henry and Chloe Doucette, and Kyle and Olivia Knowlton; his dear friends, Ron and Joyce Cram of Beverly; and his sister, Ronda Gamble of Natick. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman Gamble of Boston, and his granddaughter, Claudia Marie Smith.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, Central Street, Manchester, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
