BEVERLY- Robert W. Richard Sr, 90, beloved husband of the late Margaret (McGloin) Richard, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Edmund J. and Wilhelmina E.(Klink) Richard. He grew up in Wenham and graduated from Hamilton-Wenham High School, Class of 1946, where he captained the school's first football team.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Richard had been employed for over 40 years as a pipefitter for the Local Pipefitter's Union #138 until the time of his retirement at the age of sixty-five. He had also served as financial secretary-treasurer of the Union for many years.
A longtime resident of Beverly, he was an active communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Beverly. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are three daughters, Margaret A. Richard of Middletown, RI, Elizabeth E. Bowker of Valparaiso, IN and Christine M. Doering and her husband, Shayne of Houston, TX; three sons, Robert W. Richard Jr. and his wife, Elayne of Fairfield, Maine, Daniel J. Richard and his wife, Cynthia of Attleboro, and David T. Richard and his wife, Deborah of Beverly; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer M., Timothy, Joshua, Caleb, Will, Matthew, Jennifer V., Samantha, Steven, Danielle and David; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was also the brother of the late Elizabeth Byrne and Edmund, Arthur, Philip and Paul Richard.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, Monday, March 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will be private.
