San Tan Valley - Robert J. Provencher, age 83, passed away on April 1, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley at the Lund Family Hospice Home in Gilbert, Arizona while in the comfort of his loving wife of 61 years, Jacqueline H. (Corbin) Provencher and son Timothy J. Provencher. Robert was born on March 11, 1936 in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Eugenia (Jean) (Provencher) Pelletier and the late Omer Joseph Provencher. Proud to serve his country as a United States Naval Veteran, he was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT. While serving aboard the El Toro SS-422 submarine, he helped support his single mother.
In 1957 he married the love of his life, and they raised four children in Salem and Middleton, Massachusetts. Robert is survived by his wife Jacqueline, their 4 children and spouses: Christine and George Mukai, Robert and Cyndie Provencher, Richard and Joanne Provencher and Timothy and Diane Provencher as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Dolores and brother-in-law Dominic Marraffa, sister Grace and brother-in-law William Neve, brother Joseph and sister-in-law Sally Provencher as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and godchildren.
A brilliant engineer, inventor and entrepreneur, Robert worked for Raytheon and Autoroll before starting his own business, Proven Machine, making automated machinery that performed many tasks. While raising his sons, he was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He instilled rock solid moral values and a tenacious work ethic in his sons and daughter.
Known to those who loved him as Bob, he always had a great joke to tell which would bring about tremendous belly laughs and tears of joy. He enjoyed playing the ukulele which he would pull out to sing around the campfire on the many camping adventures that he consistently brought his family on. After retirement, Robert and his wife Jacqueline toured the country in their RV enjoying new adventures together and visiting their children and grandchildren across the country.
Robert will be cremated, in accordance with his wishes, and will be laid to rest at the Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. A future mass and memorial of his life will held in Arizona with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
