Salem, Massachusetts - Mr. Robert C. Colantuno, 72 years old, of Salem, died on Sunday, August 11, 2019, with his family by his side, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" (Stewart) Colantuno, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Americus C. and Helen A (Kasperowicz) Colantuno. He was raised in Lynn and was the 1966 graduate of Lynn English High School, where he was the co-captain of his basketball team. Following high school, he went on to Arizona State for one year, then into the Navy and then on to Salem State, where he completed his associate degree.

Bob was a Navy veteran, serving during Vietnam. He served on Navy submarines as a Storekeeper. He served on the USS James Polk and the USS Pollack, where he received a meritorious citation for operations in the defense of the United States. He was a member of the Postal Workers Union and served as Vice President. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Wenham Country Club, where he won a Club Championship. Bob was a longtime member of the Gerry 5 in Marblehead. He retired to the Villages in Florida where he was able to enjoy playing golf.

Bob worked at the Marblehead Post Office for many years and met many friends in the office and on his route. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2012 after 41 years of service.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Brian Colantuno of Salem; a daughter, Kerri Harwood and her husband Justin of Marblehead; his grandchildren, Ethan, Adam and Claire. He leaves a sister, Anita Merenda and her husband Roy of Wakefield, N.H.; a niece, Noelle Taylor and her husband Paul of Wakefield, N.H.; and a nephew, Roy Merenda Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Amherst, N.H. Bob also leaves behind his dog, Sherlock, whom he loved.

His memorial will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 9 a.m., from the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. Burial in the Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
