NEWBURYPORT, MA - Richard Lee "Dick" Summers, age 67, of Newburyport, died after a brief illness on January 31, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH. He was the beloved husband for twenty-two years of Cathy Connor of Newburyport.
Born in Indianapolis, IN, on September 18, 1950, he was the youngest of three children of the late William and Catherine (O'Neill) Summers. He attended Cathedral High School, then went on to graduate from Indiana University with a Bachelor's degree in political science.
Dick worked many years in the printing industry and for the last 22 years he and Cathy have owned and operated The Connor Summers Gallery providing professional quality framing and original art work. He was also a talented musician, poet, and blogger and an active participant in local arts organizations.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son, Aaron Zak of Cambridge, MA; a daughter, Tessa Zak-Boucher and husband, James Boucher of Salem, Mass.; a brother, William Summers, Jr. and wife, Robin Kline of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Anne Summers of Athens, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Lucinda Summers of Lebanon, Ind.; a niece Elizabeth Huff of Batavia, Ohio, and nephew, Charles Summers of St. Louis, Mo; a mother-in-law, Jean Larchez of Ipswich, two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Connor of Blacksburg, Va. and Jamie Connor of Bristol, Maine. He will be deeply missed and long remembered by family and countless friends for his inquiring mind and impeccable workmanship, and especially for his generous and welcoming nature.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of the Portsmouth Regional Hospital ICU for their dedicated help and compassionate care.
There will be a celebration of Dick's life in the springtime which will be announced on their website www.connorsummers.com. Donations in his memory may be made to The John C. Davis Myeloma and Amyloid Program at Tufts Medical Center, 800 Washington Street, Unit 231, Boston, MA 02111. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
